Demand for solar energy continues to accelerate – can this benefit beekeepers? Who’s doing it and how does it work? In the United States, farmers and other landowners have signed leases for more than 500,000 acres of new ground-mounted solar projects by the end of 2024, with up to 10 million more acres by 2050. Some of these projects are seeded with acres of diverse ground cover including clovers and other flowering species. With a virtual tour showing successful projects, this online event will introduce beekeepers to the increasingly common land use of large-scale solar farms, as well as a model contract created by the Food and Beverage Law Clinic at Pace University’s Elisabeth Hub School of Law, for beekeepers exploring solar farm apiary agreements.
